On nights for the week. It isn't that bad as im just covering the wards...touch wood. I prefer the new system where u do one week of night oncalls and u're free from them for a good 5 weeks or so. Gives u a bit of life in between and it doesn't mess up your body clock. I remember I use to look forward to my nights back in Zance as a HO (house officer, mind you :) ) It's that time when I catch up with Chetters' lovelife; most of it chasing blokes and fantasising about them!! Haha! The good ol' days.
I remember I wasnt looking forward to working in Cornwall (aka Kernow...it has it's own language and once upon a time their own parliament). All my friends got jobs in London and there I was 'thrown' to the south west at the tip of England. But everyone said I was gonna have fun, everyone down there is lovely and friendly unlike London. So there were we; took the train from London to Cardiff in the hot summer August of 2004. Met up with a friend of the bro's where he took me to my newly-bought 5th hand Vauxhall Vectra!! Was excited coz it was my 1st car!! So with our luggage we drove from Cardiff to Penzance. What took us almost 6 hrs, we were knackered! I swore we couldve driven faster, but designated driver took the option of the longer, scenery route and had multiple petrol stops and nature calls in between.
Penzance...was somewhat a quiet town when we arrived. I prepared myself for no big London stores. So they had Woolies, Boots, Dorothy Perkins. That WAS it. No M+S, no Topshop, no River Island. They had a Tesco Extra so that was OK...thank god. Went to the hospital where I was to be for 6 mths.....quite cute i thought...cottage-y and home-y looking. Before I moved into the accomodation, we stayed in a B+B. All was nice and lovely.....
What I thought was going to be the dullest 6 months of life, no friends, no shops, no life....turned out to be one of the BEST time I had so far.....met the best people around which hopefully be lifetime friends, taught me there's more life than shopping (ha!) and appreciate the English country more... (throughout those 10 yrs in the UK, this was the only time I went off to do all the walks and visits!!)....and proven to me till this day Cornish people are the best.....(oopss so are the Welsh!!)
I would love to visit Kernow again.
